Delta Police Apprehend Suspect and Seize Arms in Thwarted Agbor Robbery
Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have successfully arrested a suspect and recovered a cache of arms and other incriminating items during a foiled armed robbery operation in Agbor, located within the Ika South Local Government Area. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bright Edafe, detailed that the operation was initiated based on a distress call received in the early hours of April 4, 2026.
Swift Response to Distress Call
According to Edafe, a resident of Full Current Compound in Alihame, Agbor, alerted the police at approximately 4:47 a.m., reporting that a group of about eight armed men were attempting to forcefully gain entry into the premises. Acting swiftly on this critical information, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbor mobilized and deployed the Anti-Crime Patrol team to the scene without delay.
Residents' Intervention and Arrest
Upon arrival at the location, police officers discovered that residents of the compound had already apprehended one of the suspects, identified as Emeka Ernest, a 41-year-old man from Ukpo in Anambra State. The encounter reportedly left the suspect bruised, and he was immediately taken into custody. He was then rushed to the General Hospital in Agbor for medical treatment under strict police supervision.
Recovery of Incriminating Evidence
A thorough search conducted at the scene yielded significant recoveries, including:
- One live cartridge from the suspect
- Two expended cartridges
- A battle axe
- A red cloth suspected to have been used as a face mask
- A mobile phone
In a follow-up operation on April 6, based on the suspect's confession, police recovered a locally fabricated single-barrel shotgun that had been concealed near the scene in Alihame. This discovery underscores the ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks in the area.
Ongoing Investigations and Commendations
Edafe emphasized that investigations are actively ongoing, with efforts intensified to apprehend other members of the gang who reportedly fled the scene during the operation. The Commissioner of Police (CP), Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the prompt response and coordination by the DPO, as well as the swift action of the operatives involved. He also praised the vigilance and courage of the residents, whose timely intervention played a crucial role in preventing the robbery attempt.
Oyeniyi reassured residents of the command's unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Delta State. He urged members of the public to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious activities to security agencies, highlighting the importance of community cooperation in maintaining safety and security.
