Delta Police Apprehend Notorious Criminal
The Delta State Police Command has scored a major victory in its fight against violent crime with the arrest of a suspected serial killer who is also a confirmed prison escapee. The suspect, Michael Ezenwai, is believed to be connected to several brutal crimes that have plagued the state.
How the Arrest Unfolded
The breakthrough came on October 24, 2025, when the Agbor Police Division acted on a tip-off. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) received a complaint that an individual was attempting to sell a suspected stolen phone. The DPO swiftly mobilised operatives to the scene and immediately arrested the suspect, Michael Ezenwai.
During initial interrogation, Ezenwai gave a false narrative, claiming he had brought the phone from Libya. However, diligent police work soon uncovered a more sinister truth. Further checks revealed the phone belonged to a woman who was later found dead in her apartment.
Confronted with this evidence, the suspect confessed. He admitted to carrying out a robbery at the woman's residence on October 23, 2025. During the crime, he murdered her when she refused to surrender her motorcycle keys. He then stole her mobile phones.
A Deeper Web of Violence Unravels
The investigation took an even more alarming turn as Ezenwai's dark history came to light. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is a serial murderer. Shockingly, he was identified as part of the syndicate responsible for the horrific 2020 rape and murder of Uwaila Omorzua, a 200-level student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN). The young student was killed in a church where she had gone to study.
In a further revelation, the suspect confessed to being a fugitive from justice. He stated that he escaped from the Oko correctional centre during the EndSARS 2020 jailbreak.
Commenting on the operation, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Command, SP Bright Edafe, praised the swift action of the Agbor division. He confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and that investigations are ongoing to possibly link him to other unsolved crimes.
Delta Police Command's Broader Successes
In a related development, SP Edafe listed the significant achievements recorded by the Delta State Police Command under the leadership of CP Olufemi Abaniwonda from October to date. The impressive haul includes:
- Number of firearms recovered: 13
- Number of ammunition and cartridges recovered: 591
- Number of kidnapped victims rescued: 5
- Total number of suspects arrested: 77
This arrest and the listed achievements signal a robust and proactive approach by the police command in tackling crime and ensuring the safety of residents in Delta State.
