A 25-year-old man, Emeka Osemel, has been apprehended for stealing a mobile phone in Boji-Boji Owa, located within the Agbor area of Ika South Local Government in Delta State. In a candid interview with the Ika Weekly Newspaper, the suspect, who resides in Alihame Community, openly confessed to a lengthy involvement in internet fraud, commonly referred to as "Yahoo Yahoo." He detailed how he had previously earned money by deceiving unsuspecting victims through this illicit online activity.
From Fraud to Theft: A Desperate Turn
According to Osemel, he had been living comfortably off the proceeds from his Yahoo Yahoo operations for an extended period. However, he revealed a significant shift in his circumstances over the past six months. "For the past six months, the Yahoo business has not been paying me again," he stated. Faced with this financial downturn, he made a drastic decision to switch to physical theft as a means of survival. "Because of that, I decided to start stealing people's properties just to survive," he added, highlighting the desperation that led him from cybercrime to traditional theft.
Plea for Forgiveness and Arrest Details
The suspect, who originally hails from Aliagwai Community but currently lives in Alihame Community, expressed remorse during the interview. He pleaded for leniency, saying, "I want you people to please forgive me. It will not happen again." His arrest was carried out by members of the Owa Youth Vigilante, a security group established under the Owa Youth Council. Following the apprehension, officers from the Nigeria Police Force's Owa-Oyibu Police Division arrived at the vigilante headquarters to take Osemel into custody for further interrogation and legal proceedings.
