Arraignment of Dismissed Officers

Five police officers dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force for the extrajudicial killing of 27-year-old upcoming singer Oghenemine Ogidi, known as OG Million, have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them. The arraignment took place on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, before Justice M. Nduka of the Delta State High Court 4 in Asaba.

The defendants include ASP Nuhu, also called Ogbegbe, along with ASPs Owoloko Daurou Pamo and Okoh Kelechi, as well as Inspectors Goodluck Kingsley and Omonigho Ahweyevu. They face charges related to the death of the singer, which occurred on April 26, 2026, at the Effurun Main Motor Park in Uvwie Local Government Area.

Details of the Incident

On the day of the incident, the deceased had gone to the motor park to send a parcel containing a Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition to a receiver in Sapele. He was caught by the police officers during the process. A video that went viral showed the deceased pleading for mercy and asking the officers to allow him to take them to the home of the friend who sent the package. Despite his pleas, one of the officers pulled the trigger and shot him at close range, leading to his death.

ASP Nuhu is charged with one count of murder, punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. C21, Vol. 1, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006. The other four defendants face charges of negligent acts causing harm, punishable under Section 344 of the same law.

Court Proceedings and Next Steps

After the charges were read to them, all five accused officers pleaded not guilty. Justice Nduka adjourned the case to July 14, 2026, for the commencement of trial. The court has not yet set a date for the next hearing or indicated whether the defendants will be granted bail.

The case has drawn public attention to issues of police brutality and extrajudicial killings in Nigeria. The dismissal of the officers from the force was announced prior to their arraignment, signaling the police authorities' stance against the incident.
