Ogun State Moves to Prosecute Entertainer Over Reckless Driving Incidents
The Ogun State Government has initiated legal proceedings against popular entertainer Ademola Abiodun, widely known as DJ Chicken, following multiple road accidents that have raised serious concerns about public safety. The Ministry of Justice confirmed it is fast-tracking prosecution processes related to a crash that occurred on November 1st in Sagamu.
The Sagamu Incident and Public Outcry
According to official reports, the initial accident took place around midday on a narrow street in Sagamu, where DJ Chicken was allegedly driving at high speed before colliding with two motorcycles. The impact caused both the rider and a female passenger to fall onto the pavement, resulting in injuries to both individuals.
Witnesses reported that the entertainer attempted to leave the scene following the collision, which prompted an angry reaction from bystanders and other motorcyclists who quickly gathered at the location. Video evidence from the scene shows DJ Chicken being pulled from his vehicle, which sustained significant front-end damage.
The footage depicts the entertainer dressed only in a white singlet and underwear, being slapped and forced to sit on the ground while crowd members accused him of reckless driving. DJ Chicken appeared bloodied and visibly distressed, pleading for calm before some individuals intervened to stop the physical assault.
Pattern of Dangerous Driving Emerges
The Ministry of Justice revealed that another incident occurred on November 23rd in Lekki, Lagos, where Mr. Abiodun was involved in a single-car accident that nearly injured pedestrians. Officials noted that this marked the third recorded traffic incident involving the entertainer within just two months.
The two injured victims from the Sagamu crash were transported to a local hospital, though their current medical condition remains unconfirmed. The Ogun State Police Command had previously opened an investigation into the initial incident while prioritizing medical care and privacy for the victims.
Government Takes Firm Stance
Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade, SAN, stated that the repeated nature of these incidents necessitates criminal prosecution rather than civil remedies. "Some road users are special dangers to society and should be held to account under criminal law," Mr. Ogungbade emphasized, noting that at least two of the incidents were captured on video.
The government's action comes in response to what it describes as growing public concern over Mr. Abiodun's continued driving and the need to ensure broader public protection. Mr. Ogungbade has directed state prosecutors to expedite the Sagamu case with the intention of proceeding to arraignment.
The Office of the Attorney-General is currently collaborating with police authorities to complete all necessary legal processes for the prosecution.
