Former Doctor Nathaniel Spencer Charged with 38 Counts of Patient Sex Assault
Doctor charged with sex attacks on 38 patients

A former medical practitioner is now facing serious criminal charges following a lengthy police investigation into alleged sexual assaults against patients under his care.

Charges Span Multiple Hospitals and Years

Nathaniel Spencer, a 38-year-old from Quinton, Birmingham, has been formally charged with dozens of sexual offences. The alleged crimes are said to have occurred between 2017 and 2021 while he was working as a doctor.

The charges stem from an investigation by Staffordshire Police into claims made against Spencer at two hospitals: Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley. The investigation identified a total of 38 victims, who were all patients in his care at the time of the alleged incidents.

Breakdown of Serious Allegations

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised a total of 13 charges against the former doctor. The specific charges include:

  • Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • One count of attempting to assault by penetration.

This indicates that the alleged victims include both adults and children. Ben Samples, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for the West Midlands CPS, stated that the decision to prosecute was made after a detailed review of the evidence gathered by police.

Legal Proceedings and Official Statements

Nathaniel Spencer was charged and is scheduled to make his first court appearance at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on January 20, 2026.

In an official statement, Ben Samples explained the prosecution's rationale: 'Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a detailed and complex investigation by Staffordshire Police, carefully reviewing the available evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings.'

He further emphasized the gravity of the accusations, noting they involve 'serious sexual offences allegedly carried out against patients while he was working as a doctor'. The case highlights the profound breach of trust when a medical professional is accused of exploiting vulnerable individuals seeking care.
