A Nigerian doctor, Abdul Ahmad, has shared a disturbing experience after witnessing a 26-year-old woman intimately kissing her abusive husband in her hospital bed, just hours after he had severely beaten her.
Details of the Incident
According to the doctor, the woman was brought to the hospital by the police in the early hours of Monday, June 15, and admitted with multiple injuries. To his utter dismay, during a routine ward round eight hours later, he found the battered woman lying in her husband’s arms while he fed her.
The doctor reported that the woman and her husband were kissing each other tenderly, as if the violent incident had never occurred. This left him questioning why some women choose to remain in abusive marriages.
Doctor's Reaction
In his own words, the doctor wrote: "I’ve sworn never to get involved or take sides in any couple’s marital issues again." He detailed how the woman was rescued by neighbors who forced the door open, and her relatives reported the matter to the police. She was admitted with two dislocations—one on her shoulder and the other on her wrist—and a bleeding bite wound on her ear.
He expressed his confusion: "I honestly don’t understand the kind of heart some women have. Why do they endure such trauma and stay in abusive marriages?" The doctor added that he now feels deeply ashamed for initially taking her side and advising her relatives on how to pursue justice.
