Delta Police DPO Removed for Falsely Accusing Good Samaritan of Murder
DPO Removed After Accusing Good Samaritan of Murder

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the GRA Police Station in Asaba, Delta State, has been removed from his post and sanctioned following serious allegations of misconduct. The officer is accused of falsely labeling a good Samaritan as a murderer and attempting to extort him.

The Good Samaritan's Harrowing Ordeal

The incident came to light after a Nigerian man, Tomi Wojuola, shared his traumatic experience on social media. According to his account, he encountered a man who had collapsed on the road. Acting out of compassion, Wojuola rushed the individual to a nearby hospital in an attempt to save his life. Tragically, the man passed away.

Following the event, Wojuola went to the GRA Police Station in Asaba to file an official report about the incident, a standard procedure. However, his act of kindness took a nightmarish turn. He alleged that during the process, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge accused him of murder and threatened to "deal with him." Wojuola credited divine intervention for his escape from what he described as a terrifying ordeal.

Police Command Takes Swift Action

The Delta State Police Command responded promptly to the allegations made public on Tuesday, January 5, 2026. The command's spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the development via the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Edafe stated that the erring DPO has faced consequences for his actions. The officer has been sanctioned and removed from his office at the GRA division. Furthermore, the police spokesperson confirmed that any money allegedly extorted from Tomi Wojuola has been fully refunded to him.

Accountability and Public Trust

This case highlights ongoing concerns about police conduct and the potential abuse of power, even against citizens performing civic duties. The swift action by the Delta State Police Command is being viewed as a necessary step towards accountability.

It serves as a critical reminder of the importance of proper conduct within law enforcement agencies and the need to protect citizens who step up to help others in distress. The resolution of this case, including the sanctioning of the officer and the refund, aims to restore a measure of public confidence in the police force's internal disciplinary mechanisms.
