The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Edo State on Digital Media, Kassy Chukwu, has publicly barred Nigerian singer Davido from performing in Edo State, issuing a violent threat against the artist. In a video statement, Chukwu declared that if Davido is caught in the state, "boys" will be instructed to remove his teeth with slaps.
Background of the Dispute
The conflict stems from an online spat between Davido and Governor Monday Okpebholo. The tension began when Governor Okpebholo visited Osun State before the election to campaign for the APC candidate. During the campaign, Okpebholo reportedly asked the electorate if they were not tired of their incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, whom he described as "unserious and only focuses on dancing."
Davido, who is the nephew of Governor Adeleke, found these comments disrespectful. In response, he took to social media to mock Governor Okpebholo by sharing a poor WAEC result allegedly associated with the governor.
Davido's Refusal to Apologize
In a recent interview, Davido stated that he would not be apologizing to Governor Okpebholo. He added that he felt sorry for the governor's children given their father's public conduct. This refusal to apologize further escalated the situation.
The Aide's Reaction and Threats
Reacting to the drama, Kassy Chukwu released a video berating Davido for disrespecting his principal. Chukwu claimed that Davido has been banned from performing in the state for the remaining ‘six years’ of Okpebholo's anticipated tenure as governor. He also claimed that the WAEC result Davido posted to taunt the state governor was AI-generated.
Chukwu's threat included a warning that if Davido is caught in Edo State, "boys" will be tasked with physically harming him, specifically by removing his teeth with slaps. The video was shared on Instagram by Lindaikejiblog.
