Eight Phone Snatchers Sentenced to Six Months Imprisonment in Lagos
In a decisive move against street crime, a Lagos Magistrate Court has sentenced eight individuals to six months in prison each for snatching phones from members of the public. The conviction sends a strong message to criminals operating in the state, highlighting the government's commitment to public safety.
Swift Arrest and Arraignment
The suspects were apprehended on Thursday, November 13, 2025, during a morning raid conducted by operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC). Their crime took place on the pedestrian bridge of the busy Mile 2 Bridge, a location often targeted by thieves. The State Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the development in a statement posted on his official X handle.

- Daniel Chisom, 24

Guilty Plea and Sentencing
Following their arrest, the eight men were swiftly arraigned before the Magistrate Court at Bolade, Oshodi. The suspects all pleaded guilty to the charges of phone theft brought against them. The court proceeded to deliver its judgment on the same day, sentencing each of them to six months' imprisonment.
Commissioner Wahab, in his statement, commended the LAGESC operatives for their prompt action in curbing the menace of phone snatching. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious or criminal activities to the relevant authorities, reinforcing the partnership between the community and law enforcement in maintaining security.
