The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested eight suspected cultists for allegedly assaulting a 300-level student of the Niger Delta University (NDU) in Amassoma. The suspects were taken into custody by operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit following a distress call about a group of young men attacking a student identified as Prince Hansen at a hotel along Mike Okokpo Street in Yenagoa.
Incident Details
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, the incident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. on July 14, 2026. Mohammed stated that a public-spirited individual reported that eight young men, suspected to be cultists, had ganged up and beaten Prince Hansen, a 300-level student of NDU, within the hotel premises. The assault caused grievous bodily harm to the victim, allegedly because Hansen owed N70,000.
Suspects Identified
Mohammed identified the suspects as Desmond Linus (20), Richman Serbokuro (21), Plain Lion (19), Richman Joel (20), Solomon Damian (23), Destiny Serbokuro (24), Isaac Goodnews (22), and Theresa Francis (22). Six of the suspects are students of the Niger Delta University in Amassoma.
Exhibits Recovered
During a search of the suspects, police recovered exhibits including a substance suspected to be Indian hemp, Swinol, and charms. Mohammed confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be prosecuted upon conclusion of the investigation.
