Operatives of the Ekiti State Police Command have arrested six suspected members of the Alora Confraternity in connection with an alleged attempted murder at a hotel in Ikere-Ekiti. The arrests followed a violent clash that left one cult member, identified only as “Sucrose,” with severe injuries.
Rapid Response Squad Moves In
According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Sunday Abutu, the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Inspiration Hotel, where the suspects had reportedly gathered for a meeting. The gathering turned violent when members engaged in a fight, prompting a swift response from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and surveillance operatives from the Ilupeju Division.
The suspects, all male, were identified as Owolabi Oluwapelumi, 28; David Adeleke, 28; Oluwatoba Alo, 30; Junior Olamilekan, 27; Segun Bidemi, 29; and Emmanuel Oladele, 27. They were taken into custody at the scene, and preliminary interrogation reportedly led them to confess membership in the alleged Alora Secret Cult Confraternity.
Recovered Items and Evidence
The police recovered several items from the suspects, including a Toyota Camry car, two face caps bearing the Alora logo, three plastic cups with the same insignia, a blood-stained shirt, a pair of scissors, a yellow-coloured hand band, and a key holder marked with the group’s emblem. These items are expected to serve as evidence in the ongoing investigation.
SP Abutu noted that efforts are underway to apprehend other suspects who fled the scene during the chaos. The management of Inspiration Hotel is also under investigation for allegedly allowing its premises to be used for suspected cult activities, a development that raises questions about the hotel's compliance with security regulations.
Police Vow to Combat Cultism
The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Michael Falade, has directed that the investigation be intensified. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating cultism and other violent crimes, urging residents to provide credible and timely information to assist in tracking down fleeing suspects and other criminal elements.
“The command will sustain proactive measures to safeguard lives and property across the state,” Falade said, as quoted in the statement. His remarks underscore the police force's determination to curb the rising tide of cult-related violence in the region.
