Enugu Police Unmask Drug Dealer Disguised as Dispatch Rider in Major Bust
The Enugu State Police Command has successfully apprehended an illicit drug peddler who was operating under the clever guise of a dispatch rider, leading to the recovery of significant quantities of restricted substances including tramadol and suspected crystal methamphetamine. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug trafficking within the state.
Arrest and Recovery Details
According to an official statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on Monday, the suspect identified as Desmond Obodo Chilota, a 27-year-old male, was arrested by operatives attached to the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Squad. The arrest occurred during a routine security surveillance patrol in the Uwani area of Enugu on the morning of January 18, 2026, at approximately 6:13 a.m.
During this operation, a large quantity of highly restricted tramadol drugs was recovered from the suspect. Chilota was cleverly disguised as a dispatch rider, using a red Kymco motorcycle to transport the illicit substances. The motorcycle was also seized as part of the evidence following his arrest.
Additional Drug Recovery in Ogui Area
In a related development during the same patrol, at about 7:12 a.m., the police operatives made another significant discovery in the Onu-Asata, Ogui area of Enugu. They recovered an abandoned bag containing substances suspected to be crystal methamphetamine, locally known as "Mkpuru-mmiri", along with an Android mobile phone.
The suspected drug peddlers reportedly fled the scene upon sighting the police, leaving behind the incriminating evidence. Efforts are currently ongoing to track down and apprehend these fleeing suspects.
