A French national has appeared in court charged with the murder, rape, and sexual assault of his two-year-old daughter, whose body was discovered in Chertsey, Surrey.
Charges and Court Appearance
Kevin Kerjean, 31, who was born in the Central African Republic, was charged on Saturday, June 27, with murder, rape of a child under 13, and sexual assault of a child under 13. The victim, initially unnamed in court, was later identified by the Crown Prosecution Service as Assia Kerjean.
Kerjean appeared at Guildford Crown Court on Tuesday, June 30, and has been remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear again at the same court on Monday, September 14.
Police Investigation
A Surrey Police spokesperson confirmed that the victim was the daughter of Kevin Kerjean. Officers were called to an address in Pyrcroft Road around 5:40 pm on Thursday, June 25, following reports of a concern for safety. Upon arrival, the girl was found dead inside the property.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death. Detective Chief Superintendent Jon Groenen stated: "This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the child’s mother and extended family, as well as all those who knew her."
