On July 7, 2026, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command arrested four suspects who specialize in robbing commercial drivers, particularly those working for ride-hailing platforms Bolt and Uber. The arrests were confirmed by the command's spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, who stated that the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the FCT Police Command Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) following credible intelligence.
Suspects Identified and Method of Operation
The four suspects have been identified as Ibrahim Ismail, Ahmad Umar, Riskwa Shehu, and Umar Abubakar. According to Adeh, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects operate by posing as regular passengers. They book commercial vehicles through e-ride hailing platforms such as Bolt and Uber, then attack the drivers once inside the vehicle, dispossessing them of their vehicles and other valuables.
Recovered Vehicles and Legal Proceedings
Upon arrest, the suspects were found in possession of two vehicles: an ash-colored Toyota Rav 4 with registration number YAB 240 DL and a grey Honda Civic with registration number ABC 72 JP. Adeh disclosed that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations. The FCT Police Command continues to urge drivers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
