The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has officially refuted claims of a kidnapping incident that was reported to have taken place at Phase 1 Primary School in Gbagalape, Abuja. The clarification was issued by the command's Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, on June 4, 2026.
Distress Call and Response
According to Adeh, at approximately 10:30 AM on the same day, officers from the Nyanya Division of the FCT Police Command received a distress call alleging an ongoing kidnapping at the school. In response, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Nyanya Division immediately mobilized officers and surveillance teams to the scene.
Preliminary Findings
Preliminary investigations revealed that students had suddenly begun shouting "kidnappers" and running out of the school premises, causing panic among teachers and community members. The school premises were promptly cordoned off and thoroughly searched by responding officers.
Following an extensive search and questioning of individuals within and around the school, no kidnapping incident was confirmed. No suspects were sighted, and no victims were identified. Additionally, surrounding hills, boundaries, and adjoining areas were patrolled and searched, while nearby schools were also visited as part of precautionary security measures.
