The Federal Ministry of Education has strongly condemned the abduction of students in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State and Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, describing the incidents as tragic and unacceptable. In a statement issued by Folasade Boriowo on Thursday, the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, emphasized that attacks on schools and students amount to attacks on the nation's future. "No child should face fear or violence in pursuit of education. The government remains committed to securing schools and protecting learners nationwide," the minister stated.
Government Assurances on Rescue Operations
Alausa assured that the Federal Government is working closely with security agencies to ensure the safe return of all abducted children. He reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu's administration to improving school security through enhanced surveillance systems, emergency response mechanisms, and the implementation of the National Policy on Safety, Security and Violence-Free Schools.
Call for Calm and Support
The ministry urged Nigerians to remain calm, avoid spreading misinformation, and support ongoing rescue operations. It also expressed solidarity with affected families as well as the governments of Oyo State and Borno State over the incidents. The government continues to prioritize the safety of students across the country.
