Police to Conduct Forensic Probe into Osun Shooting, Collaborate with Customs
The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has announced plans to deploy a comprehensive forensic investigation model to examine the tragic shooting incident that occurred in the Dada Estate area of Osogbo, Osun State. This event resulted in the loss of lives, sparking significant public interest and concern. The Force has acknowledged the ongoing attention surrounding the case, as well as recent statements made by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) regarding the matter.

Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Placid, emphasized that while the police recognize the statutory duties of the NCS in conducting anti-smuggling operations, the sanctity of human life remains the highest priority for the state. According to Placid, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has noted the NCS's call for a harmonized investigation. In response, the NPF will collaborate closely with the Customs in this probe, which will be led by the Osun State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). The investigation will involve the highest level of forensic diligence to ensure accuracy and transparency.
Suspects in Custody and Evidence Analysis
Placid confirmed that the suspects, identified as Kolawole Suuti and Danjuma Samuel, remain in police custody to facilitate a transparent inquiry. The recovered exhibits from the scene, including a Beretta pistol with Breech No. 125024 and 9mm ballistic evidence, are currently undergoing specialized analysis. This process aims to synchronize the facts with the operational Rules of Engagement (ROE) to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
