The case was formally reported to the Monguno Division of the police at about 6:20 p.m. by Maidugu Mustapha, a resident of Gana Ali Ward. According to the report, the suspect, identified as Mohammed Ibrahim Angoli, who serves as a Forest Guard member, fatally shot his 24-year-old son, Ajiya Mustapha, in the back using an AK-47 rifle. This account was corroborated by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who provided initial insights into the event.

Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Monguno swiftly mobilized a patrol team to the scene. At the location, photographs were taken as part of the evidence-gathering process, and the victim was evacuated to the General Hospital in Monguno for medical attention.
