Four members of a kidnapping gang, led by a suspect identified as Ifeanyi, also known as "Ifeko," who were planning to abduct a billionaire businessman in Lagos, have been killed in a gun battle with police operatives in the Ejigbo area of the state.
Police Operation in Ejigbo
According to reports from The Punch, the suspected kidnappers were neutralized during an operation around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, near Jakande Estate Gate in Ejigbo. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, provided an update on the operation while addressing journalists on Tuesday, May 26, at the command headquarters in Ikeja, as reported by The Guardian.
Security Threat of Kidnapping
Kidnapping for ransom has become one of Nigeria's most pervasive and destabilizing security threats. Once concentrated in the Niger Delta and tied to militancy, it has spread across the country. The successful police intervention in Ejigbo highlights ongoing efforts to combat this crime.
The police continue to urge the public to provide information that can help prevent such criminal activities and ensure the safety of all citizens.
