The Nigerian law enforcement community has been thrown into mourning following the gruesome discovery of the mutilated remains of a Federal Road Safety Corps officer and her teenage daughter at a suspected herbalist's den in Osun State.
Tragic Disappearance Turns to Horror
Funmilayo Oluwamayokun Lasisi, a 39-year-old Superintendent Route Commander with the FRSC, and her daughter, Sewa Lasisi, were declared missing after leaving their residence at Obasanjo Hilltop Estate in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta on the morning of Sunday, November 2. Family members grew increasingly concerned when numerous attempts to reach both individuals via their mobile phones proved unsuccessful.
The senior FRSC officer, who held responsibility for overseeing multiple routes and coordinating strategic enforcement operations at the fourth-level senior operational officer position, had established a distinguished career within the corps hierarchy before her tragic disappearance.
Gruesome Discovery in Traditional Healer's Residence
The mystery surrounding their disappearance took a dark turn when their mutilated remains were discovered during the weekend at the residence of a suspected traditional healer in Osun State. Facebook user Ayomideji Solanke, who had access to information about the incident, revealed that a source close to the bereaved husband confirmed the tragic recovery.
"Fresh revelations emerged at the weekend when a source close to the bereaved husband disclosed that the bodies of the officer and her daughter were recovered from the residence of a traditional healer in an undisclosed community in Osun State," Solanke wrote in his social media post detailing the heartbreaking development.
Police Investigation and Suspect Arrests
Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, confirmed the disturbing development to journalists on Tuesday, November 18. The senior police official disclosed that the Osun State Command had taken charge of the investigation and had already made several arrests in connection with the case.
"The Osun command has commenced investigation, and they have made some arrests. They found some exhibits that are body parts. For convenience's sake, Osun will be investigating the matter, and we will be lending the necessary support. The suspect is with them," Commissioner Ogunlowo stated during his briefing.
Investigators recovered what they suspected to be body parts of the missing officer and her daughter from the scene, adding to the evidence pointing toward a possible ritual killing. While the herbalist's wife has been taken into custody, authorities report that the primary suspect, the herbalist himself, remains at large and is currently being sought by police.
The case has sparked outrage and concern among Nigerians, highlighting ongoing security challenges and the persistent threat of ritual killings in certain parts of the country. The FRSC community and the victims' family continue to mourn the devastating loss while awaiting justice through the ongoing police investigation.
