The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the killing of Letam Kine, a former Chief Security Officer of Khana Local Government Area, who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Bori on Sunday, July 20, 2026. The attack occurred around 6 p.m. along Polytechnic Road, and the assailants fled before security operatives arrived at the scene.
Police Spokesperson Confirms Incident
Blessing Agabe, the police command's spokesperson and an Assistant Superintendent of Police, disclosed the details to journalists in Port Harcourt on Monday. She stated that Mr. Kine's body had been deposited in a mortuary pending an autopsy as investigations continue. Agabe said: "The Rivers State Police Command has launched a full investigation to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice." She urged the victim's family to formally report the killing to assist the investigation, pledging that the command would identify, arrest, and prosecute all those responsible.
Khana LGA Chairman Condemns Killing
Thomas Bariere, the Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, condemned the murder as a "senseless act of violence." He described Mr. Kine's death as "heartbreaking" and emphasized that such acts have no place in a peaceful society. Bariere expressed particular concern that the killing occurred just weeks after the murder of Clement Deegbara of Kpong Community. He called on security agencies to intensify operations across Khana and rapidly apprehend those responsible for both killings, demanding that all culpable suspects be prosecuted.
Bariere extended condolences to Mr. Kine's family and urged them to remain strong. He also appealed to residents across the local government area to stay calm, remain vigilant, and share any credible information with security agencies that could help bring the perpetrators to justice. He reaffirmed that protecting lives and property remains a core priority for his administration.
