Activist Harrison Gwamnishu has provided a fresh update on the tragic shooting of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi by a police officer in Effurun, Delta State. In a follow-up video shared on Instagram, Gwamnishu detailed how Ogidi unknowingly picked up a package containing a gun at a garage, using a waybill number provided by a friend. He was stopped by police officers who discovered the weapon. Despite Ogidi's pleas and offers to cooperate fully, one officer, ASP Nuhu Usman, opened fire, killing him.
Gwamnishu alleged that the officer likely knew about the gun delivery and shot Ogidi to silence him and prevent exposure. He stated, 'He was ready to talk and even take them to his friend, but instead of investigating, they killed him.' The activist also revealed that Ogidi was an upcoming artist whose family had reported him missing, unaware he had been killed two days earlier.
Police Response and Investigation
Following the viral video, Delta State police confirmed the arrest of the officer who fired the shot. Gwamnishu now reports that all officers involved are being transferred to Abuja for investigation and disciplinary action. He thanked the person who recorded the video, saying, 'Whoever made that video, evil will be far from you.' The Inspector General of Police responded within an hour of the post.
Public Reactions
Netizens expressed outrage and support. @ada.ora_ said, 'How can you take a life you didn't give? In broad daylight!' @chomyblack1 commented, 'It is not over until they're treated ... just as they did to that innocent boy.' @engr_ogediamond wrote, 'Thank God they didn't succeed in silencing you.' @123nanaking reacted, 'God bless you brother ... please protect the person who made the video.' @alexdiva1_ asked, 'What if it was not recorded? what of those who go through worst?' @pitakwa1 added, 'Even if the gun belonged to the boy, what right do they have to kill him? Big thanks to the new IGP.'
Gwamnishu continues to demand justice and transparency in the case.
