Hisbah Arrests 9 for Prostitution in Kano End-of-Year Raid

The Kano State Hisbah Board has taken nine young individuals into custody following a targeted operation against alleged commercial sex work in the state capital.

End-of-Year Operation Nets Suspects

In a statement released on Saturday, December 27, 2025, the Board's Deputy Commander General, Dr. Mujahideen Aminuddeen, confirmed the arrests. The operation, conducted on Friday night, was a special end-of-year initiative targeting major streets within Kano metropolis.

The apprehended group consists of eight female suspects and one male suspect, who allegedly posed as so-called "Good Evening Girls." This term is commonly used in the area to refer to individuals involved in street-based prostitution.

Confessions and Operational Details

According to Dr. Aminuddeen, the suspects, whose ages range from 15 to 20 years, admitted to having engaged in the illicit activity for some time. He detailed the modus operandi, explaining that wealthy clients typically pick up the girls, take them to chosen locations, and pay them sums ranging from N5,000 to N30,000 per encounter.

The extensive raid covered numerous key roads and areas in the city. The streets specifically mentioned include:

  • Zoo Road and Banana Zoo Road
  • Ahmadu Bello Way and Lamido Crescent
  • Tukur Road and Lodge Road
  • Nassarawa Hospital Road and Magajin Rumfa Road
  • Sultan Road Nassarawa and Audu Bako Way

Ongoing Investigations and Community Appeal

The Deputy Commander-General stated that once their investigations are fully concluded, the suspects will be formally charged and prosecuted in court. He reaffirmed the board's commitment to continued raids in such areas to apprehend anyone violating the state's Shari'a law.

Aminuddeen also seized the opportunity to issue a strong appeal to parents and guardians. He urged them to ensure the proper moral upbringing of their children, particularly their daughters, as a fundamental measure to curb the rising tide of prostitution and other social vices in society.

This operation underscores the Hisbah Board's active role in enforcing religious and moral codes within Kano State.
