A shocking case of domestic violence has resulted in a double tragedy in India, where a man allegedly beat his wife to death as she breastfed their baby. The couple's six-month-old infant also died after choking on milk during the violent assault.
Details of the Horrific Incident
The bodies of 30-year-old Champabai Mankar and her infant son were discovered inside their home in Bakawa village, within the jurisdiction of the Bediya police station in Madhya Pradesh's Khargone district. The grim discovery was made on the morning of Thursday, January 15.
According to police reports, the couple had engaged in a heated argument on the night of Wednesday, January 14. The dispute escalated violently when the husband, identified as Sunil, began assaulting Champabai while she was in the act of breastfeeding their child.
Superintendent of Police Ravindra Verma stated that police and forensic teams rushed to the scene after receiving information about a domestic dispute. They found Sunil sitting near the bodies, and he was immediately taken into custody as the prime suspect.
The Fatal Assault and Its Aftermath
During the attack, Sunil reportedly pushed his wife against a door and proceeded to beat her with his hands, legs, and a stick. Multiple injury marks were later found on Champabai's body during the postmortem examination.
In a tragic twist, police believe that the chaos of the assault caused the six-month-old baby to aspirate milk, leading to fatal choking. The accused, Sunil, allegedly went to sleep afterwards, believing his wife had only fainted from the beating.
It was also reported that the couple's two other children witnessed the entire horrific incident. Preliminary investigations suggest that Sunil's motive stemmed from suspicions regarding his wife's character, though this is still under official investigation.
Police Action and Ongoing Probe
During questioning, Sunil confessed to killing his wife. He has since been formally arrested and is in police custody. The bodies of both victims were handed over to their family following the completion of postmortem procedures.
