Ibeju-Lekki Chairman Urges Calm Over Unidentified Group Influx

The Executive Chairman of Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area in Lagos State, Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has confirmed that his office is aware of the recent influx of a group of people into communities within the local government. He assured residents that state security agents are actively monitoring the situation.

Community Concerns Over Unidentified Individuals

Earlier today, footage circulated on social media claiming that several bandits were apprehended within the district, sparking widespread community anxiety. In response to the escalating fears, Olowa issued a formal statement on June 1, directly addressing the situation.

The administration acknowledged the circulating reports and concerns regarding the recent arrival of unidentified individuals in parts of the community. Reassuring residents, the leadership emphasized that the safety and security of the people remain the absolute top priority.

Collaboration with Security Agencies

The office has escalated the matter and is actively collaborating with relevant security agencies to investigate the claims and ensure the area remains secure.

“I am pleased to inform residents that security authorities at both the state and local levels are fully aware of the situation and are actively monitoring developments. Necessary intelligence and security measures are being implemented to ensure the continued peace and stability of our communities,” Olowa said.

He mentioned that at a time when security concerns remain a national challenge, it is important that everyone remains vigilant and supports lawful efforts aimed at safeguarding lives and property. Residents are therefore encouraged to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities through the appropriate channels.

Warning Against Unlawful Actions

He warned against people taking the law into their own hands.

“No individual or group should be subjected to harassment, intimidation, profiling, or any form of unlawful treatment. Security matters are best handled by the appropriate authorities, who have the legal mandate and capacity to do so. I urge everyone to remain calm, go about their lawful activities, and continue to uphold the values of peace, tolerance, and lawful conduct that define Ibeju Lekki. Be assured that your government remains vigilant and fully committed to the safety and security of all residents,” he said.
