Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, appeared before the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Monday, July 21, 2026, to answer questions regarding his alleged involvement with the controversial and fraudulent Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Investigation into Fake PFIPC
The anti-corruption agency is probing the operations of the PFIPC, a fake council purportedly run by Mr. Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who presented himself as its Director-General. Matthew initially claimed that Gbajabiamila orchestrated the fake agency but later retracted that statement, alleging instead that a now-deceased associate of his had interacted with Gbajabiamila during the council's formation.
Presidential Directive
President Tinubu had directed the ICPC on July 7 to investigate the matter and submit a report within 30 days. Gbajabiamila's lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, confirmed his client's cooperation in a statement: "In full cooperation with the ICPC, acting on the directive of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I hereby confirm that my client, Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, responded to the invitation of the ICPC. He appeared at about 3 p.m. on Monday as part of the ongoing investigation into the activities of the fake PFIPC, among other issues. My client gave his testimony, responded to questions accordingly and has since returned to his duty post."
Arrest of Self-Acclaimed Director-General
Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew was arrested last week after a court issued a bench warrant for his arrest. He remains in police custody pending the conclusion of investigations.
