The Igbo community has announced the death of Princess Nne Nana Onwodi, a prominent women leader and former presidential aspirant of the defunct Alliance for United Nigeria (AUN). Onwodi also served as the national women leader of the Umuigbo United Assembly Worldwide (UUA Worldwide).
Statement of Profound Loss
In a statement issued by the National Media and Publicity Secretary of UUA Worldwide, Comrade James Ezema, the Assembly expressed “profound sorrow and a deep sense of collective loss” over the demise of the respected leader. The statement described her passing as a significant blow to the organisation and the broader Igbo community.
Tribute to a Distinguished Leader
The organisation paid glowing tribute to the late Onwodi, highlighting her leadership qualities and unwavering commitment to the advancement of the Igbo people both within Nigeria and in the diaspora. According to the statement, she was “a distinguished leader, a committed advocate for unity, and a passionate voice for the advancement of the Igbo people both at home and in the diaspora.”
The Assembly noted that her contributions to its growth and cohesion were “immense and enduring,” particularly in her role as National Woman Leader. It added that she “exemplified dedication, courage, and visionary leadership,” and was instrumental in mobilising women and promoting inclusive participation across the organisation.
Broader Societal Impact
Beyond her role within the UUA, the late Onwodi was also recognised for her broader societal impact. The statement emphasised that “her legacy extends beyond organisational leadership,” noting her “commitment to national development, her advocacy for good governance, and her unwavering belief in the power of collective action to transform society.”
Her death, the Assembly said, came as a shock to its members worldwide. “The news of her passing has come as a great shock to the entire Umuigbo family worldwide. We mourn not only a leader but also a mother, mentor, and unifying figure whose presence will be sorely missed,” the statement added.
Condolences and Prayers
The UUA extended condolences to her family and associates, stating: “On behalf of the leadership and entire membership of Umuigbo United Assembly Worldwide, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her immediate family, associates, and all who were touched by her life and service.” The organisation also offered prayers for the repose of her soul and comfort for her loved ones, saying, “We pray that Almighty God grants her soul eternal rest and gives her loved ones the strength to bear this irreparable loss.”
