Imo Police Arrest 4 Over Banned Fireworks in Owerri

The Imo State Police Command has successfully apprehended four individuals in connection with the illegal possession and distribution of prohibited fireworks within the Owerri capital territory.

Intelligence-Led Raids Net Suspects

Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives conducted separate raids at various locations across Owerri metropolis. These operations led to the recovery of large quantities of banned pyrotechnic items, commonly known as knockouts or bangers.

The suspects taken into custody have been identified as:

  • Victor Amadi, 29-year-old male
  • Moses Okoro, 31-year-old male
  • Ebuka Onye, 28-year-old male
  • Isaac Amadi, 23-year-old male

Police Spokesperson Reiterates Total Ban

The command's Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Henry Okoye, confirmed the arrests to journalists. He stated that the police are reiterating the complete ban on the use, sale, distribution, and possession of all forms of fireworks and explosive devices in Imo State.

Okoye emphasized that the directive is clear and any person found violating it will face the full wrath of the law. "The command will not tolerate any act that threatens public safety and peace. Anyone caught with these banned items will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly," he warned.

Zero Tolerance for Explosives

This enforcement action underscores the police command's commitment to maintaining order and preventing the potential hazards associated with illegal explosives. The use of such devices often leads to noise pollution, panic, injuries, and even damage to property.

The arrests serve as a strong warning to others who might be involved in the clandestine trade of these prohibited goods. The police have urged residents to report any suspicious activities related to the sale or storage of fireworks to the nearest security post.
