A 26-year-old Chinese man was killed and a 27-year-old Chinese woman was seriously injured when a famous rock archway in Malta collapsed onto their jet ski after an American tourist jumped off it. The incident occurred on Saturday, June 27, at around 7 p.m. at the 'Kissing Elephants' formation on the island of Comino, northwest of Malta's mainland.

Details of the Tragedy

According to the Times of Malta, the archway collapsed shortly after a 32-year-old American man jumped from it into the sea. The falling rocks struck the jet ski carrying the two Chinese nationals, killing the man instantly. His body was found pinned to the seabed. The woman sustained serious injuries and was taken to Gozo General Hospital, where doctors reported that her injuries were not life-threatening. The American tourist was rescued by a passing boat but did not require hospital treatment.

The 'Kissing Elephants' formation was a popular attraction for tourists who rented jet skis in the nearby waters. Visitors often jumped off the arch into the sea.
