Kano State Government Arraigns Man for Wife's Murder and Arson
The Kano State Government has formally arraigned Ali Sulaiman Adam of Gadon Kaya before Kano State High Court No. 15 on charges of culpable homicide and arson. The defendant is accused of killing his wife, Maryam Nababa Badamasi, and setting their room ablaze. The tragic incident occurred barely two months after the couple's wedding, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Details of the Charges
The state counsel filed a two-count charge against the defendant, bordering on culpable homicide and arson. According to the prosecution, Ali Sulaiman Adam allegedly set the room where the incident occurred on fire, resulting in the death of his wife. When the charges were read to him, Ali pleaded not guilty to both counts.
Prosecution Seeks Adjournment
The prosecution counsel, Barrister Lamido Abba Sorondinki, urged the court to adjourn the case to enable the state to present its witnesses. He emphasized the need for adequate preparation to ensure a fair trial.
Defense Counsel Requests Bail
Counsel to the defendant, Barrister A. A. Dabo, prayed the court to uphold the bail earlier granted to his client by the Gezawa Division of the Kano State High Court. However, the trial court declined to grant the request immediately. In response, the defense counsel sought leave to file a fresh bail application.
Court Adjourns for Bail Hearing
Justice Sanusi Ado Ma’aji of Kano State High Court No. 15 subsequently adjourned the case until July 27 to hear the defendant’s fresh bail application. The court has not yet set a date for the full trial.
