A Magistrates' Court in Kano has ordered the remand of a young man, Auwalu Adam, in a correctional facility for his alleged involvement in the killing of his friend following a dispute over the cover of a tricycle tyre. The court, presided over by Magistrate Sakina Aminu Yusuf, issued the remand order after Adam was arraigned by the police on charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.
Defendant Pleads Not Guilty to Charges
When the charges were read to him in court, the defendant pleaded not guilty. The prosecuting counsel, Barrister A.I. Buhari, urged the court to adjourn the case to enable the prosecution to obtain legal advice from the government. The magistrate granted the request and adjourned the case until September 8, 2026, for continuation.
Alleged Dispute Over Tricycle Tyre Cover
The police alleged that Adam and some of his friends, who are still at large, were involved in the killing of their friend, Aliyu Abubakar Badawa. According to the allegation, the incident followed a dispute over a well cover belonging to a tricycle, popularly known as Adaidaita Sahu.
The case has drawn attention to the often trivial disputes that can escalate into fatal violence in local communities. The remand of Adam underscores the seriousness of the charges, which carry severe penalties under Nigerian law if convicted.
