Kano Police Arrest Suspect with Arms and Military Gear for Bandits

The Kano State Police Command has apprehended a suspected bandit in Bichi Local Government Area, recovering an AK-47 magazine, 109 rounds of live ammunition, and suspected military uniforms. The arrest occurred on July 12, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m. in Rimaye Village, Bichi LGA, following a tip-off from a community member.

Details of the Arrest

According to the command's spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, the suspect, identified as Mohammed Isah Haruna, a 28-year-old resident of Dan Dinshe Yamma Quarters, Dala LGA, was intercepted while wearing a military uniform. A search of his bag yielded one AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds, 79 additional rounds of AK-47 ammunition, two sets of suspected military uniforms, three military caps, one suspected fake military ID card, one National ID card, one NIN slip, one voter's card, four ATM cards, and a pair of desert boots.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he was in the area to deliver the items to bandits operating in the bush. The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, commended the Rimawa Community for their vigilance and prompt reporting.

CP Bakori stated, “This arrest underscores the importance of community partnership in policing. We appreciate the Rimawa Community and all good people of Kano for their support. Security is a collective responsibility.” He reiterated the command's commitment to intelligence-led and community-centric policing across all 44 local government areas of Kano State, in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

The suspect remains in custody, and a discreet investigation has commenced to apprehend other suspects and dismantle the criminal network. The case will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
