A devastating incident has cast a pall of grief over the residents of Bajallabe in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State. A two-year-old boy, Danjuma Salman, lost his life after he fell into an open well.

Timeline of a Tragedy

The Kano State Fire Service confirmed that the tragedy occurred on Friday, November 7, 2025, at approximately 10:05 am. The agency's Public Relations Officer, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, disclosed that a distress call was received from Saminu Dayyabu, alerting them to the emergency.

Upon rushing to the scene, the Emergency Response Unit from the Fire Service headquarters made a grim discovery. The young boy had fallen into a well whose cover was damaged. Despite their swift and determined rescue efforts, the officers retrieved the child unconscious. He was later confirmed dead.

Official Response and Urgent Safety Plea

Following the recovery, the victim's body was handed over to his father, Salman Dayyabu, for burial according to tradition.

Expressing profound concern, the Fire Service spokesperson highlighted an alarming increase in drowning incidents involving children across the state. He directly linked these tragedies to uncovered wells, open water sources, and pit toilets.

The official issued a strong appeal to parents, caregivers, and all residents. He urged them to exercise greater vigilance and to ensure that all wells and other open water points are securely covered to prevent similar heartbreaks. "We are appealing to residents to cover their wells and pit toilets securely and keep children away from such dangers. Most of these incidents are preventable," he stressed.
