Angry youths protesting incessant bandit attacks have set ablaze the office of the Chairman of Gwarzo Local Government Area in Kano State. The incident occurred on Sunday, May 17, 2026, following a deadly attack by bandits on Lakwaya village in Gwarzo on Friday, May 15.
Bandit Attack on Lakwaya Village
According to reports, bandits stormed Lakwaya village on more than 30 motorcycles, opening fire indiscriminately. The attack resulted in the deaths of two people and left several others injured, causing widespread panic among residents.
Youth Protest Turns Violent
Tensions escalated on Sunday when protesting youths marched to the local government secretariat. They vandalized property and set the chairman's office on fire. Ismail Aliyu Gwarzo, a resident, told reporters that the protesters were expressing frustration over persistent security challenges.
“Villagers trekked about twenty kilometers to the local government secretariat to protest the rising insecurity in their communities,” he said. “They vandalized property and set ablaze a section of the secretariat. The incident caused panic among people, who ran for their lives.”
