Kebbi Police: Sai Malam Not Terrorist Group

The Kebbi State Police Command has clarified that the resurfaced group known as "Sai Malam" has not been designated as a terrorist organization. The Command is currently investigating reports of the group's alleged resurgence in the Argungu Local Government Area using actionable intelligence.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, on Friday, June 26, the Command confirmed awareness of the reports and stated that verification efforts are underway. The Command explicitly clarified that the "Sai Malam" group has not been designated as a terrorist organization under any existing proscription order.

Previous Prosecutions and Recovered Exhibits

According to the statement, individuals previously prosecuted by the police in February 2026 in Zuru were arrested and investigated strictly in connection with criminal activities. Exhibits recovered from those suspects included suspected counterfeit currencies from various countries—including the Nigerian Naira, United States Dollar, CFA Franc, and Libyan Dinar—as well as suspected ritual or occult materials. The police emphasized that no firearms were recovered from the suspects during that investigation.
