Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have arrested a suspected kidnapping kingpin in connection with the abduction and murder of a Fulani community leader in Plateau State. The suspect, identified as Anas Usman, aged 25, was taken into custody following a coordinated operation.

Details of the Arrest

The arrest occurred at approximately 6:00 p.m. on May 8, 2026, during a joint operation by troops of Sector 7 (Sub-Sector 71) Sanga and 4 Special Forces in Akwanga. The operation was based on credible intelligence linking Usman to the kidnapping incident involving Alhaji Lawal Abubakar Wakili, the Fulani leader of Kekong in Gashish District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

Investigation Underway

The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation as part of ongoing investigations to uncover other members of the criminal network. Security authorities have stated that efforts are ongoing to track and dismantle other cells linked to kidnapping activities within the general area.
