Gunmen suspected to be members of the Lakurawa terrorist group have killed two officers of the Nigeria Customs Service in Tuga community, Bagudu Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, May 13, 2026, when the assailants stormed two security checkpoints in the area.
Details of the Attack
According to a source, a senior officer among the victims was burned alive after the attackers set fire to the location where he was sleeping. The source said the attack happened around 3 a.m.
“The gunmen attacked two checkpoints that are very close to each other,” the source said. “They shot one officer, a one-star, while they burned the three-star officer alive. They came in a truck, disguising as if they were carrying animals, catching the officers unaware. Two other officers with gunshot wounds are now in the hospital receiving treatment.”
Victims Identified
The slain operatives have been identified as Assistant Superintendent of Customs Bamigboye and Deputy Superintendent of Customs Dom.
Customs CG Confirms Incident
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, confirmed the incident in Ilorin while delivering a keynote address at the fourth biennial international conference organized by the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, University of Ilorin.
“This morning, two officers of the Nigeria Customs Service paid the supreme sacrifice while warding off threats from Lakurawa terrorists in Kebbi,” the customs chief said. He described the incident as deeply painful, noting that operatives of the service have continued to play frontline roles in security operations alongside the military.
“Apart from the military, the Nigeria Customs Service remains the last shield in several of these border communities,” Adeniyi stated.
