A 5-year-old girl is currently in critical condition at a hospital in Abia State following an alleged r@pe by a 35-year-old man. The incident was brought to public attention by Facebook user Uwaoma Chiagozie, who posted details on Wednesday, June 24, 2025.
Details of the Assault
According to Uwaoma Chiagozie, the assault left the child with severe injuries that required stitches. The child also suffered significant blood loss but was reported to be slightly stable by 9:00 pm on the same day.
The suspect, who hails from Akwa Ibom State, was reportedly squatting with another tenant in the compound. Uwaoma emphasized the need for landlords to verify tenant identities to prevent such incidents.
Call for Landlord Vigilance
Uwaoma advised landlords to maintain detailed records of tenants, including identification documents. She wrote: "As a landlord, have the details of your tenant, check up on your tenants building, have a lawyer to back the documents up, have their pictures, bank details, ID cards and other identification means."
She further warned: "If they decide to squat anyone, have every damn person details or they should leave your property. Na who them squat r@pe person wey dey 5 years oooooo. Shey una dey see am ba? Watch your environment too."
Child's Statement
Uwaoma also revealed that the victim disclosed ongoing abuse: "Baby girl said he has been putting finger in her puna but she was scared to talk." The case underscores the vulnerability of children and the importance of community vigilance.
