The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce and Anti-Crime Squad has made an arrest following a disturbing incident of road robbery targeting a vulnerable motorist.
Swift Response to Roadside Attack
On the evening of Wednesday, January 14, at about 8:30 p.m., a motorist found himself in a perilous situation after his vehicle developed a fault on the busy Oshodi–Iyana Ipaja Road. Taking advantage of the breakdown, a gang of individuals attacked the stranded driver and forcibly demanded money from him.
The state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the incident and the subsequent arrest via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday, January 15. He detailed how the task force operatives were alerted and moved swiftly to the scene.
One Arrested, Accomplices on the Run
The prompt intervention led to the apprehension of one suspect directly at the location of the crime. However, other members of the gang managed to escape and are currently at large. Commissioner Wahab stated, "The suspect was detained and will be arraigned as soon as possible."
Authorities have assured the public that efforts are actively ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing accomplices. This arrest sends a strong message against those who prey on citizens in distress on Lagos roads.
Zero Tolerance for Crime in Lagos
This incident highlights the continued challenges of road safety and security in metropolitan areas. The Lagos State Government, through its environmental and anti-crime units, has reiterated its commitment to protecting law-abiding citizens and maintaining order. The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities promptly.
