The peaceful community of Illelar Yari in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area has been thrown into mourning following the brutal murder of a 14-year-old Qur'anic student. Salihu Hassan, a pupil from Hisbulrahim Talamai'a Sheikh Ibrahim Qur'anic School, was allegedly killed in a shocking incident that has left residents in disbelief.

Details of the Tragic Incident

According to the victim's father, Hassan Guraguri, the tragic events unfolded on Monday, November 24, 2025, around 6am. The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Jame Jidda, reportedly called the young student out of the school premises under false pretenses.

"The suspect deceived my son by pretending to send him on an errand," the grieving father explained to journalists shortly before the funeral prayers. "We received the devastating news from other pupils around 7am that my son's body had been discovered behind the school."

The family immediately rushed to the scene and transported Salihu to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, where medical professionals confirmed the heartbreaking truth - the young student had died as a result of a violent attack.

Police Response and Community Reaction

The Kebbi State Police Command has swiftly responded to the incident. CSP Nafi'u Abubakar, the police spokesman, confirmed in an official statement that officers from the Birnin Kebbi Division have already apprehended the suspect.

"The suspect is currently in custody, and an investigation has commenced to determine the motive behind the attack," Abubakar stated. He further emphasized the police commitment to ensuring that justice is served in this distressing case.

The local Muslim community gathered to pay their final respects to the young student. Imam Muhammadu Nagujiya conducted the funeral prayer at the school premises before the body was laid to rest at the Birnin Kebbi main cemetery.
