Trader Apprehended for Heinous Crime Against Minor

Vigilante group members in Abuja have taken into custody a 22-year-old trader identified as Muazu Usman for the alleged rape of a nine-year-old girl. The disturbing incident occurred in the Pasali community within the Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.

Timeline of the Tragic Event

According to Tanko Bala, a member of the local vigilante group who spoke with Daily Trust, the assault took place around 11am on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. The young victim had been sent by her parents to purchase Maggi cubes at a nearby shop when the suspect reportedly lured her with an offer of two sachets of Cowbell milk.

The girl's parents became aware of the assault when she returned home in tears. Upon questioning their distressed daughter, they discovered the horrifying truth about what had transpired during what should have been a simple errand.

Investigation and Arrest Process

The vigilant parents immediately reported the incident to the local security group. "When the girl's parents came along with the victim and explained the incident, the vigilante immediately led them to the shop and met the man," Bala stated.

Initially, the suspect denied any wrongdoing. However, after intensive questioning, Usman admitted to "playing with the girl's body." The vigilante group then directed the suspect to close his shop and accompanied the victim to a medical facility.

Medical examination provided crucial evidence when doctors confirmed that the child had been penetrated, substantiating the rape allegations against the trader.

Legal Proceedings Begin

The vigilante group has since transferred the suspect to the custody of the Nigeria Police Force. A police source from the Gwagwalada division, who requested anonymity, verified the incident and confirmed that the suspect will be charged to court following completion of the investigation.

This case highlights the ongoing concerns about child safety in Nigerian communities and the continued collaboration between vigilante groups and formal law enforcement agencies in addressing serious crimes.
