A man who went viral for assaulting a young woman after she rejected his advances has been arrested and detained in Abuja. The incident, captured in a widely shared video, shows the woman crying and accusing the older man of slapping her because she said no when he approached her.
Arrest and Detention
The suspect was traced and arrested following the viral video. The victim stated that Nigerians online helped identify the man, and she went with her family to the nearest police station to file a report. According to her, many people had previously filed complaints against the same man, but lacked evidence. Her video provided the necessary proof for police action.
Escape and Surrender
When police accompanied the victim to the man's house, he reportedly ran inside, locked himself in, and escaped through the back of the compound. Neighbors then revealed that the man is known for causing trouble and allegedly harassing young women in the area. Eventually, the man surrendered at the police station, where a video shows him apologizing.
Outcome and Settlement
The victim initially aimed to take the case to court, but her family decided against it to allow her to focus on her studies. They opted for an out-of-court settlement, requiring the man to pay for physical and emotional damages. He remains detained until the damages are paid.
“No means No, and the sooner some men start respecting women's boundaries, the better our society will become,” the victim wrote as she shared a video of his arrest.
