The confrontation occurred on the morning of December 3, 2025, after both individuals had been consuming alcohol together at a residence in the locality. Court evidence revealed that the men were heavily intoxicated when they departed the premises to return home. During their journey, one man's impaired coordination caused him to walk slowly, which reportedly provoked his companion's anger.
The situation escalated dramatically when the attacker, identified as 30-year-old Previous Nyathi, lost patience and initiated a brutal assault. According to court testimony, Nyathi first used a traditional knobkerrie weapon to strike his friend multiple times on various body parts. He then intensified the violence by hitting the victim with an empty beer bottle, causing significant facial injuries that required immediate hospital treatment.

Nyathi later appeared before Western Commonage regional magistrate Pasipanodya Maturure, where he faced charges of attempted murder. Magistrate Maturure sentenced Nyathi to five years imprisonment, with two years suspended under specific conditions.
