Suspect Arrested for Allegedly Killing Father Over Property Dispute

A middle-aged man has been arrested by the Rivers State Police Command for allegedly hacking his father, retired Marine Captain David Nwoke, to death during a dispute over property at Oro Ekpo Estate, Ada George, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. The incident occurred on Sunday morning, July 5.

Background of the Conflict

According to reports, the deceased had finalized plans to relocate to his hometown in the South-East region of Nigeria. He invited his children to inform them of his decision and to distribute some of his properties. During this meeting, the son from the deceased’s second wife demanded one of his father’s cars, but the request was declined.

Angered by his father's refusal, the suspect allegedly plotted to kill him. Residents of the community reported that on the day of the incident, the deceased had gone out for his morning walk, returned home, and as he was about to enter his room, the suspect emerged from hiding and attacked him multiple times with a machete, inflicting fatal injuries.

Police Response and Investigation

The housemaid immediately alerted neighbors, who then contacted the police at Rumuokpani Police Division. The suspect was arrested at the scene. Confirming the incident, the command's spokesperson, SP Agabe Blessing, stated that the matter is under investigation and upon conclusion, the suspect will be charged to court.
