Kano Community in Shock as Son Kills Mother in Brutal Attack
The peaceful Sabon-Gari area of Kano State was thrown into mourning on Saturday, November 22, 2025, when a 35-year-old man allegedly stabbed his biological mother to death in what police are describing as a possible drug-induced homicide.
The suspect, identified as Abdularazak Abdulkadir, reportedly attacked his 55-year-old mother, Fatima Abdulkadir, at their family residence located at No 55 Freetown Street during the early hours of the morning.
Neighbors Arrive Too Late to Prevent Tragedy
According to witnesses who spoke to investigators, the horrific incident unfolded quickly, with neighbors arriving at the scene only to find the woman had already been stabbed multiple times by her own son. The attack was reportedly triggered by a disagreement between mother and son, though the exact nature of the argument remains unclear.
Police sources confirmed that when officers arrived at the crime scene, they discovered Abdularazak had stabbed his mother in the stomach. The suspect had also inflicted wounds on himself in what appeared to be a suicide attempt, though he targeted safer parts of his body.
"Both mother and son were found lying in a pool of blood," revealed a police source familiar with the investigation. "They were immediately rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital in Kano, where medical doctors confirmed Fatima Abdulkadir had succumbed to her injuries."
Drug Use and Mental State Under Investigation
Family members disclosed to authorities that the suspect had a history of consuming illicit drugs, particularly a potent form of cannabis sativa known locally as "colos." This revelation has led investigators to consider drug influence as a primary factor in the tragic event.
"This seems like a drug-induced homicide," the police source stated. "The murder could also be cult-related. Till this moment, he has been behaving like a demented fellow, and we may first take him to the hospital for further checks before taking him to court."
The suspect has been largely uncooperative with investigating officers and has failed to provide any coherent explanation for his actions. After receiving treatment for his self-inflicted wounds at the hospital, Abdularazak was arrested and transferred to the Homicide unit of the Criminal Investigation Department at the Police Command.
Community Mourns as Investigation Continues
Following the confirmation of Fatima Abdulkadir's death, her family retrieved her body from the hospital and conducted burial ceremonies in accordance with Islamic rites in the state capital.
The Kano State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident and assured the public that once investigations are completed, the suspect will be formally charged in court.
The tragic event has sparked widespread outrage across Kano metropolis, with residents of Sabon-Gari area expressing shock and disbelief that such violence could occur within a family in their community. Many are calling for increased attention to drug abuse and mental health issues in the state.
