A violent confrontation between drinking companions turned nearly fatal in Parkgate, KZN when one man allegedly stabbed his friend multiple times following accusations that the victim had insulted his mother.
Alcohol-Fueled Argument Turns Violent
The incident occurred on Friday, November 14, 2025 in the Parkgate area of KwaZulu-Natal. According to reports from Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), emergency responders received a distress call regarding a stabbing incident involving a 42-year-old Zimbabwean national.
When Reaction Officers and RUSA Paramedics arrived at the scene, they discovered the injured man seated in the passenger seat of an Opel Corsa bakkie. Medical personnel immediately began treating him for three stab wounds to his chest.
The Mother Insult That Sparked Violence
Preliminary investigations reveal that the two men had been consuming alcohol together when a heated argument erupted between them. During the confrontation, the suspect became convinced that his drinking companion had disrespectfully insulted his mother.
In a fit of rage, the accused man allegedly produced a knife and proceeded to stab his acquaintance repeatedly. The violent attack was only stopped when members of the local community intervened.
Community Intervention and Arrest
The situation escalated further when community members, upon witnessing the stabbing, assaulted the suspect in what appeared to be an act of mob justice. The attacker managed to escape the scene despite the community's intervention.
However, his freedom was short-lived. Reaction Officers received credible information that the suspect was hiding in a nearby bar. When officers arrived at the establishment, they spotted the man attempting to flee the premises.
The suspect was apprehended as he tried to enter a local tavern in the area. At the time of his arrest, authorities noted that the man was heavily intoxicated and unable to remember where he had discarded the weapon used in the violent attack.
