Tragic Incident in Oba Ile Claims NSCDC Officer's Life
A Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps officer lost his life in a tragic incident that occurred on Thursday, November 20, in Oba Ile, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State. The officer was stabbed to death by a 19-year-old teenager described as mentally unstable during an attempt to restrain him.
How the Fatal Confrontation Unfolded
According to residents and witnesses, the tragedy began when the teenager's mother invited two NSCDC personnel to their home following a violent disturbance. The mother had sought professional help to subdue her son and ensure his safety.
An anonymous witness who spoke with The Punch revealed that the situation escalated rapidly during the restraint attempt. "When the boy started misbehaving, his mother called two civil defence officers to help her chain him," the witness explained.
During the struggle, the teenager reportedly overpowered one of the officers and managed to seize a knife from him. The witness added, "In the process of trying to restrain him, the boy overpowered one of them and removed the knife from him and stabbed him. It was unfortunate because the officer had a gun, but things happened too fast."
Official Confirmation and Aftermath
The stabbed NSCDC officer was immediately rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment but succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical care.
Daniel Aidamenbor, the spokesman for NSCDC in Ondo State, confirmed the incident and described it as tragic. He clarified that the officer had been attempting to safely transport the teenager to a medical facility for proper treatment. "Yes, the incident happened. It happened when our officer was attempting to take the man to a facility where he would be treated," Aidamenbor stated.
The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, also confirmed the officer's death, noting that "The civil defence officer died while receiving treatment at the hospital."

Authorities have not yet disclosed whether the teenager will face criminal charges or undergo psychiatric evaluation following the fatal incident. The tragedy has left the Oba Ile community in shock and raised questions about procedures for handling mental health crises.
