A commercial cyclist, Nura Yusuf, who had been reported missing, has been discovered dead inside an uncompleted building in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The body was found in a structure located around the Gas Pipeline area in Unguwar Sabo-Tasha, along the Abaji-Gwagwalada Road, according to Daily Trust.
Discovery by Farmers
The decomposed remains of Yusuf, a native of Bagwa Local Government Area of Kano State, were found on Saturday, August 23. A close friend, Ibrahim Baba, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust on Monday, August 24. Baba stated that farmers heading to their farms noticed a foul odour emanating from the uncompleted building and investigated.
“It was some farmers who were going to the farms that discovered the body following a bad odour from the area. They moved closer and discovered the body,” Baba said. He added that the cyclist had been missing for several weeks before the discovery.
Police Response and Burial
According to Baba, the police were immediately alerted, and officers were mobilised to the scene. The decomposed body was subsequently buried at the location. A police source at the Abaji Division, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the discovery. “Upon the arrival of policemen at the scene, the body had already decomposed, so the corpse was buried at the scene,” the source said.
Background and Impact
Yusuf, who resided in Abaji town, had reportedly picked up passengers heading towards the Gas Pipeline area, where he was allegedly strangled. Baba noted that the deceased’s phone could not be reached from the time he was declared missing until his body was found on Saturday. Yusuf is survived by a pregnant wife. The incident highlights ongoing safety concerns for commercial cyclists in the region, with authorities yet to announce further investigations.
