Saratu Jibo, the 37-year-old Nigerian woman whose family reported her missing after she arrived in Doha, Qatar, has been found safe in a hospital. Her brother, Jonathan Jibo, confirmed the news on Sunday, September 6, stating that she had fallen ill after her arrival and was taken from the airport to a medical facility.
Woman Missing After Qatar Airways Flight QR1408
Saratu Jibo had travelled from Lagos to Doha aboard Qatar Airways flight QR1408 but became unreachable after landing. Her family said she failed to contact them, and the person designated to pick her up from the airport could not locate her. Her brother, Jonathan Jibo, raised the alarm and appealed for public help in finding her.
Jibo disclosed that his sister was travelling to Qatar for the first time and had no friends in the country who could immediately assist in tracing her. Her accommodation had reportedly been arranged and paid for months before the journey, and a designated pick-up person was waiting at the airport but could not find her.
Family Sought Help from Nigerian Embassy and Authorities
The woman, who had worked at Lagos airport for nearly 12 years, was expected to commence a new job in Doha weeks after her arrival. As concern grew over her whereabouts, her family sought assistance from the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar, Qatar Airways, and other relevant authorities.
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority also became involved after its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, began efforts to establish what happened to her after she left the airport. Earlier checks confirmed that she arrived in Doha, collected her luggage, and exited the airport, but questions remained over where she went afterwards.
Brother Confirms Sister Was Sick and Hospitalized
However, her brother Jibo confirmed on Sunday, September 6, that his sister had been located. According to him, the woman became ill after arriving in Qatar and was subsequently taken from the airport to a hospital, where she was eventually found.
“Good news… My sister has been found today, she was sick and was taken to the hospital from the airport,” Jibo said in an update shared on X.
Jibo expressed appreciation to everyone who helped amplify the search, particularly the Nigerian Embassy in Doha, Qatar Airways, and Achimugu. He also thanked Nigerians and other social media users who shared the appeal and helped draw attention to the case.
